In 1986, Filizola invested his savings in Filizola Pharmacy, which was very small at the time. Seven days a week, Filizola acted as the pharmacist, the clerk, the cashier, and the delivery person.

Three years later, Filizola managed the company's first expansion, adding three pharmacies in 1989. In 2000, he changed the brand of the pharmacy chain to Santa Branca and four years later opened a drug distribution center. The company currently conducts retail and wholesale operations with 14 stores in the capital and in the interior of the state. It has vertically integrated its own production line for multivitamins and minerals.

Filizola joined the Organization of Retail Pharmaceutical Products of the State of Ceará, became president in 1998 and remained in the position until 2010.

Between 2006 and 2010, Maurício Filizola acted as treasurer of Fecomércio and today serves as vice president of Fecomércio Ceará System.
